Yankee Game
This past Thursday I went to see the Yankees play the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium. Being that this is the last year of Yankee Stadium, I really wanted to go to the stadium at least once more. I also wanted to see the new Yankee Stadium, which is being built across the street from the current Yankee Stadium.
To get there, I took the bus from Springfield New Jersey to the Port Authority bus terminal in New York City. I then took a subway up to 59th street, and transfered to another subway which went to the stadium. There use to be metal tokens, which worked very well, to pay for the subways. Now you have to buy these flimsy plastic cards which you slide through this machine. The card I had did not work well at all. On the way up to the stadium, I had to slide the card through the machine several times to get it through. On the way back, the card did not work at all, and this guy got me through the machine by using his card. I was very grateful. I saw other people having problems getting their cards through the machines, so I guess it wasn’t that I am just a rube not use to the city.
Going to the stadium was great. It is very old, the seats are cramped, the aisles are cramped. There really is a need for a new stadium. But there is so much history involving Yankee Stadium. From all the great Yankees who played there, the New York Giants football team, the three popes who gave masses there, the great fights that were held there, the great Notre Dame vs Army football games from decades ago. It’s amazing how much has happened there. If you are a baseball fan, or even a history fan, I would definitely go to the stadium if at all possible. It’s really neat to see, and the rest of the city is great too.
Oh and by the way, the game was great. The Yankees won the game 6 - 3. There were four home runs hit by the Yankees. I was surprised that there were quite a few Cleveland Indians fans at the game. In fact I was sitting next to two of them. They were great, and we had some good conversations.
