All Star Game, ETC

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I was into the All Star Game last night because it was at Yankee Stadium. I even watched the pregame stuff which lasted about two hours. Being that I am a Yankee fan, I was glad the American League won. It was great seeing some of the Hall of  Fame players in the pregame show;  guys like Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Ernie Banks, Goose Gossage, Cal Ripken, Willie McCovey, Bob Feller. I love seeing those guys. I was disappointed some guys were  missing: guys like Tom Seaver, Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan, Joe Morgan. It was great seeing George Steinbrenner there. He was so emotional. You can tell how much he loves New York, Yankee Stadium, baseball, and the Yankees. Unfortunately he did not look well.  It was nice how there was a tribute to Bobby Murcer at the game. He was a great guy that died too young.

I still can’t believe this is the last year for Yankee Stadium and that it’s going to be torn down. It’s such a  historic place, it’s hard to believe in a few months it will not exist.

I’m looking forward to the second half of the baseball season.  I’m hoping the Yankees can be more consistent. I am sure they will make  some changes to the team through trades. minor league callups, or signing players that have been released by other teams. It will be interesting to see how the Mets do after winning their last 9 games before the All Star Break. The Dodgers are another team that interests me because of Joe Torre managing there.
