• Believe in them. We are all human. We all have self doubts, a time when our confidence has been shaken or our faith tested. There may have been times when you feel like you are slowly drowning. Having somebody believe in you, stand by you, at those times is like being thrown a life preserver.

• We should always be looking for ways to encourage others.  Many times without realizing it we voice the negative.  We must practice the old rule “think before you speak”. If you are about to say something negative, STOP, take a deep breath and than look for a way to give sincere encouragement to that person. “You can do it”, “I know you can”, can go a long way in helping somebody stay on course to reach their goal. Spread encouragement whenever you can.

• Be a role model. People are watching you, so be the best role model you can be. Your actions speak louder than words so remember to put into action that which you preach. The best sermon ever told is the one lived-live a life of integrity.

• Praise others. Praise them in private, praise them in public.  Always look for the best in somebody and you will find it. When we give praise to others they tend to do better and spread the praise forward.

By incorporating these four simple steps into your daily living you will become the leader people are looking for and you will be supporting somebody to become their best.

There are plenty of stand-up comedy routines that squeeze chuckles out of the age-old lament “What do women want?”

But when that question is posed to America’s working women, the responses are no laughing matter. They want more time for their families and themselves, and more money.

Working America’s 2008 “Ask a Working Woman” survey found that even though women spend more time than ever on the job, any extra pay is being eaten up by rising prices.

“Working women want to spend more time with their families, but they can’t afford to,” said Karen Nussbaum, executive director of Working America, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO. “America’s working women need a raise and a break.”

After juggling work and family duties, 34 percent of those interviewed for Working America’s 6th annual survey said they have less than an hour a day to themselves, with 11 percent saying they have zero “me time.”

Most time-challenged are women in their 30s and 40s, with nearly 60 percent indicating they have one hour or less daily to use as they choose. It’s probably no surprise that number shoots up to 72 percent for working moms in those age groups.

Lack of personal and family time notwithstanding, the increasing pressures of rising consumer prices have a lot them considering taking on more work to pay the bills.

Fifty percent of the 12,000 women interviewed in May and June for the survey said that, if they had more time, they’d take a second job to ease their financial strain. Spending more time with family was the No. 2 choice, with 43 percent indicating they want more home time. More time for friends was also high on the wish list, with 24 percent of working women craving more contact with their pals.

Using data from the U. S. Census and the American Community Survey, Christine Percheski found the number of full-time working mothers is anything but down.

Percheski noted that more work doesn’t necessarily mean less mothering. Instead working mothers are reducing sleep and personal hours.

“They’re successfully combining motherhood and employment, but it comes at a cost,” she wrote.

• Many of today’s retirees overlooked the risk of inflation when they were planning for retirement, in part because inflation had been so contained in recent years, says John Sestina, a financial planner in Columbus, Ohio. Sestina says, retirees essentially have two options: Cut back on spending or return to work.

• Some retirees are coping by returning to work or finding part-time jobs or starting a small business.

• Nearly one-quarter of adults 65-74 are in the workforce, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, up from 19% in 2000. But in a tight economy, finding a job or keeping the one you have is hardly a certainty.
