Who is the Next Victim?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

At any moment in time 80,000 predators are surfing the Web, looking for their next target!

They are grooming at least 10 children at one time, and they will focus in on the first opening that a child gives them, and they’ll put all of their energies into that child, and make them a victim… If they’re not stopped!…

Your Neighbor’s Secret Life Online:

Protecting Families from Internet Conmen, Scammers and Predators

As computer technology becomes more powerful and pervasive, the Internet has emerged as an invaluable tool for information, research, and entertainment, but there is an unsavory, sometimes lethal side to the computer revolution as well.

This book will teach you why the moment your child becomes involved and is using the internet, is the moment that you have the talk… It’s not a birds and the bees talk, but rather a explain type talk, that there are very bad people out there and online that want to hurt you. Parents need to have the, “they want to HURT you” talk…

Until we get Capital Hill on board to make the state, local law enforcement, and all agencies to enforce the laws that are already in place… we’re never going to have change… that we ALL want!!!

Who is that next victim going to be? if you don’t know then you should be reading Stephen Dean’s new book:

Stop Passing The Buck! Educate, Discuss, Protect…

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

What a wonderful interview today with Ken Shallcross and his special guest Jewel, they shared their thoughts on the very controversial topic of how to monitor your child’s behavior on the internet…

Check out the live interview at: the CyberHood Watch radio show

This is something David and I are very passionate about and we are glad that Ken shared his thoughts and ideas of how their software can improve your skills as a parent, to deal with the enormous problems and eventual tragedies that can happen. When children make bad choices as far as using the internet, mobile communication’s, pda’s for texting, and the wrong way they invite the world in their world, by sharing private and personal information, then they may not be able to fend off trouble, before it happens to them… for example!

Take a look at the story found in the NY Times, titled: The Undercover Parent

PC Pandora has graciously agreed to giving all of our radio listers the opportunity to download and use their product, with a very special $10.00 OSA discount… please click this picture below!

PC Pandora

Here are 2 of the highlight’s from Ken’s interview today...

1.) Provide our listeners with 7 top tips that will help parents and kids to be safe online.

  1. Educate yourself. Do research on the web. Know where your kids are going and whom they are talking to.
  2. Talk to your kids. Open communication. Talk about these three: predators, cyberbullies, and dangerous information to post online.
  3. Use monitoring software. Filters can be maneuvered around and may cause only stronger desire to go to forbidden sites. Monitoring gives more accurate knowledge of what they are up to.
  4. No computers in the bedroom!
  5. Google your child and yourself.
  6. Establish definitive rules that include approved surf times and full disclosure of accounts and passwords.
  7. Go private on all online accounts for under 18 users!

and…

8.) What is the one thing that if you could, you would change about the way the Government, (local, state, fed) Corporation, Businesses, Organization etc…, handles certain issues or the way citizens handle things in regards to protecting our children on the internet, against predators, pedophiles and human trafficking etc… what would that be?

Stop passing the buck! Stop instilling a false sense of security with press releases, agreements and partnerships that mean nothing.

I’m glad MySpace finally bucked up, but they did it only after several state AGs launched an investigation and basically called them out publicly. They also waited until after numerous incidents being publicly ousted linking sex predators using their site AND after a few suicides pointing to cyberbullying on the website. So, thanks for taking recognizing the problem… a few days late.

Also, age verification is a waste. The only way to truly identify is with a credit card or government issued ID/number (SSN or License, etc.) If it gets to the point where you have to enter your personal information to join a social networking site, this phenomenon will come to a dead halt.

Promote technology. Kids are using it – so should parents

Finally, local law enforcement: keep offering classes, seminars and informational meetings about the dangers; parents: please go to these meetings!!! To Read the rest of theses 8 questions or print go here: PC Pandora Interview

How Can We End Internet Trafficking, In This Decade?

Friday, March 14th, 2008

How is it possible to read the answers to these questions, and not have this change your life forever? Soma was a very gracious guest on our CHW live radio show, and she gave a lot of very sound and practical advice, ideas how we can start today to make a difference in our own communities!!! And how we can all work from a grass roots level to demand that this stop, not only in America but around the world… Join Dave and Bill as they learn how to start today, by asking the right questions; starting with (what can I do?)…

10 Tips From Love146.org, How-to End Internet Trafficking (EIT) In This Decade?

Somanjana C.Bhattacharya, Public Relations & Communications Division

David C. Ballard and Bill Wardell, The CyberHood Watch Partners

Love146.org Questionnaire: (Soma) and CyberHood Watch (CHW)

1.) (CHW) What is the End Internet Trafficking (EIT)? and how and why did Love146.org help form the new EIT coalition?

(Soma)

EIT’s goal: The coalition’s goal for 2008 is to build a coalition/relationship with organizations such as Craigslist to work towards combating modern day slavery.

We collaborated with like-minded organizations (Safe HS, Fair Fund, Barnaba Institute) to form End Internet Trafficking Coalition in order to bring in new ideas, energy and collective strength to this fight.

2.)
(CHW) What specifically would you propose to Craig’s List to help make the Internet a safer place from the exploitation of children?

(Soma)

i. Safeguard its erotic services section by better monitoring and

installing preventative software’s

ii. Introduce proper registration in ES so that all the customers are

traceable

iii. Introduce fine system or some form of penalization if users

advertise Pornographic Stuff

3.) (CHW) What would you like the outcome to be for the public forum held in April, with Buckmaster?

(Soma)

We, from EIT are planning to organize a web-conference in April and then an open forum in September this year where we would like to invite Jim Buckmaster. We haven’t spoken to him on any public forum yet.

Love146.org a Behind the Scenes Look at the End Internet Trafficking Coalition

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Join us as we interview Somanjana C.Bhattacharya of Love146.org she is over the Public Relations & Communications Division… Soma has offered to be on our special guest on Friday’s, show dedicated to: End Internet Trafficking and the Coalition that has been started to stop this on Craigslist and other legitimate business, that are facilitating these types of crimes… Read this short quote below from…

Craigslist Call to Action Campaign:

JIM BUCKMASTER, CEO OF CRAIGSLIST: STANDING ON THE HIGHEST MORAL GROUND?

“Putting aside the fact that craigslist legally can not be held liable in this suit, we feel very strongly that the craigslist community of users is on the very highest moral high ground with respect to fair housing, setting an example more worthy of emulation than litigation.” Jim Buckmaster

Above is Mr. Buckmaster’s response to a lawsuit brought against Craigslist in 2006. The Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law sued Craigslist for 100 allegedly discriminatory ads posted by Chicago users in a 6 month period. This case was dismissed by the US District Court in Chicago, as of November 14, 2006.

Would he be able to make the same declaration regarding the erotic services section? Does he want to? In Minnesota, a woman was sentenced on January 7, 2008 to five years in prison for operating a prostitution ring employing high school students:

Does this not elicit moral outrage?

As you all know, Love146 formally launched our boycott on January 11, in commemoration of The U.S. Human Trafficking Awareness Day. We continue to be encouraged by all of you who have joined your voice to ours. To date, our supporters and friends have sent in thousands of petition letters and e-mails to Craigslist headquarters. New organization supporters include National Organization of Women (CT), The Barnabas Institute, CraigsCrimelist.org, and the Paul and Lisa Program.

While we hope that a boycott will not have to last long, we have yet to receive a response from Craigslist. A boycott is defined as the following: “to abstain from or act together in abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with as an expression of protest or disfavor or as a means of coercion.” (www.dictionary.com) Remember, our goal is to act together to persuade Craigslist to do the right thing. More stories to tear your heart out, we need to realize this is real and it’s happening everywhere and we need tell people, and alert our children and family, about these dangers and potential crime opportunities that are lurking around every corner…

A mum’s worst nightmare

Please Join us this Friday, 14th 2008 on our CyberHood Watch live radio show, and ask Soma your most pressing questions…

The Choking Game… It’s not a GAME

Monday, March 10th, 2008

On last weeks radio show David and I had a question come in on the chat line and the listener asked about: “The Choking Game” and I thought what does this person want me to ask our guest? Then after asking the question, which Nancy did a great job of answering the question and said that children play all sorts of games that have high risk, and as parents we need to be talking to them about this terrible tragedy just waiting to happen… I asked my wife about this later and she reminded me about a neighbor child who had died from this just a few moths ago in our own little neighborhood, very tragic indeed…

here is a 3 year old video… come on folk’s we got to start getting involved with our CyberHood Watch, and help one another!

So, I went to work this week to find more information and any organizations that dealt with the problem. I found very little information and most of the stories that are highlighted are going back a minimum of 3 to 5 years. This is very disturbing to say the least… I found one organization that looks like they are trying to make a difference and they have some good information and resources, here is their web address:

G.A.S.P.

more info on how bad this really is…

What a terrible way to end a child’s life…. no game should be played where the end results can be death… and we need to change the NAME - it’s not a GAME!

We are working on a Top 10 Taboo Topic’s and Subjects, that have to be talked about before it’s to LATE… a good place to start is getting the list at Take 25 and download the list of 25 Tips… also, you can get the OSA agreement!
