A Stilwell, Okla., man planning to take his family on a summer vacation early Saturday morning was instead an inmate at the Crawford County Detention Center.

Less than four hours before he was scheduled to leave for the beaches of South Carolina, David Wayne Fuson, 34, was arrested for computer exploitation of a child, according to Chief Deputy Ron Brown of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.

What an incredible guest on our show today, the 3rd of June… We were recently contacted to do an interview with author G.L. Sheerin about his brand new book called “Virus Games” so David and I jumped at the chance to help children gain a better understanding of the internal workings of the internet but also for us bigger kids as well to have some fun and re-live our Hardy Boys days and a chance to learn from a real internet security professional, as well. Gary shared why he wrote his brand new and this very interesting and “current topics” book about what he does everyday, for a living!

I was riding with my son in our Bronco the other day and he said; “that I had to watch out, there was a cop up there!”

And this really made think that our children sometimes have the wrong impression about law enforcement and cops in general… and what we teach our children by our thoughts and action, also the media’s portrayal is a lot of time, in a negative light…

So, here is what I told my son, “that may be true but I am here to tell you that when you need a cop it is nice to know that they are only 1 call away!!!”

1. Be involved with your child, know what they are doing.
2. Listen to what your child is saying.
3. Know where your children are.
4. Have a safety plan, a place mutually agreed upon, where they can go to as a safe place.
5. Agree upon alternate safe individuals to go to.
6. Keep the computer in a common area.
7. Keep your children busy with healthy and positive activities.
8. Monitor your child’s activity on the computer; know where they’ve been and where they’re going on the computer.

Salt Lake City (April 1, 2008) – Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and Susanne Mitchell of the CJC will address the media on Thursday, April 3 at 1 p.m. at the Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center (CJC) located at 257 11^th Avenue (B Street) in Salt Lake City.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month Nationwide

“Where small voices can be heard”

Our vision: A state of the art center leading the nation in addressing child abuse.

“There are 14 Children Justice Centers in Utah and each provides safe environment for children to receive help during the child abuse investigative process,” said Attorney General Shurtleff. “More than 14,000 citizens received assistance from the CJCs in Utah last year.”

“The Children’s Justice Centers of Salt Lake County lead the nation in addressing child abuse through neighborhood centers which allow children to be treated with respect in a comforting setting,” said Mayor Corroon. “Last year, 3,400 citizens were served at the two locations.”

CJCs help empower children to have a voice and feel supported and safe. Although each child’s visit to the program is brief, within a few hours children and families feel much better after receiving services.
