We are excited to announce our entry into Ashoka’s Changemakers Ending Global Slavery: Everyday Heroes Leading the Way collaborative competition. This is a global competition that aims to find holistic, innovative solutions to global slavery by seeking out and recognizing individuals and organizations that raise awareness of slavery’s root causes, liberate those in bonded labor, and reintegrate former slaves into their communities.
Our entry highlights the innovation of SlaveryMap.org, which is rapidly growing thanks to your submissions! By being part of this competition, we have a great opportunity to share our work with leaders in the field, investors, the media, potential partners, and other supporters. Today in Myanmar, 2.5 million people cling to survival after the disaster that hit two weeks ago. The latest state television update in former Burma has declared the death toll after the May 2nd cyclone to be 77,738 people. Another 55,917 are still reported missing.* Thousands swarm the roadsides of a country void of the foreign aid it so desperately needs. Children, destitute and orphaned, are picked up by vicious traffickers prowling the disaster area.
This week, David Batstone travels to Myanmar to approach the crisis situation.
Last Fall, Not For Sale partnered with Thai Abolitonist Kru Nam to build a shelter for 125 kids rescued out of the sex trade industry. Today, she implores us to intervene again as Burmese children trafficked into Thailand are being rampantly sold.
It’s time to build a shelter, and it’s time to act fast.
Not For Sale, this week, has partnered with a foundation that will match EVERY DOLLAR we donate, up to $25,000. Our goal is to raise $50k in the next two weeks. The shelter will be on the border between former Burma and Thailand, and will provide the critical care necessary to rescue Burmese orphans out of slavery. Kru Nam’s village, as is, cannot support one of the growing needs in this crisis. But together, we believe we can raise enough money that can.
DONATE now. Every dollar you give is worth two. Join the call to action in this crisis.

Join the team at Not For Sale in advocating for the rights of trafficking survivors in Washington DC!
The T Visa came into law with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000. It was introduced to protect women, children and men who are survivors of human trafficking. The T Visa is a significant benefit for survivors, yet the legislation does not do enough to protect survivors and has been poorly implemented. If we are going to put an end to slavery within the United States, we must offer protection and a future for the survivors. Join the Not For Sale team in Washington DC on October 8 - 9/2008 to advocate for more effective implementation of these important T-Visas.

Here at the CHW and at Love146, we want to thank all of you for your efforts in voicing your concern about the misuse of Craigslist to traffic women and children!
On March 27, a press release from the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office stated that Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today demanded that Craigslist purge apparent, often graphic solicitations for prostitution rampant on certain sections of its website.
Shortly after, Craigslist announced that they have implemented a phone verification system which has drastically lowered the volume of erotic services ads—by 80%! This is specified in their official blog: http://blog.craigslist.org/#phone
Though, we haven’t noticed any dramatic difference in the quantity and presentation of the advertisements in the Erotic Services Section so far, nevertheless we are enthused at Craigslist’s initiative towards reforming it’s (in)famous section.
We applaud Mr. Buckmaster’s gesture towards rectification. Therefore, Love146 will officially call off the boycott that we initiated at the onset of this year. However, we want to encourage you to continue supporting our campaign to eradicate child sex trafficking and exploitation completely on Craigslist site. Visit our Take Action page on more ways you can engage Craigslist.
We have achieved yet another milestone in regards to our Craigslist campaign:
The formation of the End Internet Trafficking Coalition (EITC, www.eitcoalition.org). Coalition members include Students & Artists Fighting to End Human Slavery, The Barnaba Institute, and FAIR Fund.
EITC is a national coalition whose mission is to prevent sexual violence and human trafficking via the internet. The EITC achieves this by providing a platform to link nonprofit, governmental, law enforcement, faith-based, and student grassroots agencies and individuals to advocate an accessible worldwide web where children, youth, and adults are better protected from human trafficking in all its forms.
EITC will build on our existing Craigslist Campaign to address the use of the internet for human trafficking. The EITC will also subsume all Craigslist campaign related activity.
To join our coalition or share your ideas, please email info@eitcoalition.org
Upcoming events for End Internet Trafficking Coalition:
A web conference in May 2008 with the U.S. Health and Human Services Rescue and Restore Campaign Description: An interactive discussion on the use of the internet to proliferate human trafficking, with an emphasis on the use of the Erotic Services section on Craigslist. To participate in either of these conferences, please email info@eitcoalition.org.
Public Forum in September 2008– San Francisco, CA
