Term of the Day - Pay Per Sale

Definition - Online advertising payment arrangement in which payments for ads placed on the host’s web site are based solely based on qualifying sales of the advertiser’s products or services. If there are no sales, there are no payments for the ads placed.

Use This Term To Make Money Online - In a pay per sale agreement, the advertiser only pays for sales generated by the destination site, based on a predetermined commission rate.

Paying per sale is often seen as the arrangement model with least risk for the advertisers and most risk to the publisher/site owner. In such an agreement, the publisher must not only be concerned with the quality and quantity of his or her audience from with to generate sales, but also the advertiser’s ability to create ads that convert into sales. The downside for the advertiser is that it is a time consuming process, as you have to contact and negotiate with each site you want to advertise on.

Many publishers do not accept, or at least strongly discourage sales-based agreements, preferring the pay per click model which provide advertising revenues regardless of sales volume. However, some publishers, facing weak ad sales, have little choice but to accept sales-based agreements to fill-out empty ad space.
