Term of the Day - Black Hat SEO

Definition - SEO (search engine optimization) techniques used to improve search engine rankings in ways that are disapproved of by the search engines, or that involve deception on the part of the website owner.   It is about creating content that appeals to the search engines, but not necessarily to the end users of a website.  In fact the content that is used to attract the search engines may have no value to the end user.  The content the end user may see may be different than the content being developed to attract the search engines.

How To Make Money Online With The Internet Marketing Term Of The Day - SEO techniques can be classified into two broad categories: techniques that search engines recommend as part of good design, and those techniques that search engines do not approve of. Industry commentators have classified these methods, and the practitioners who employ them, as either White Hat SEO, or Black Hat SEO.

Search engines may penalize sites they discover using black hat methods, either by reducing their rankings or by eliminating their listings from their databases altogether. Such penalties can be applied either automatically by the search engines’ algorithms, or by a manual site review.

Black hat SEO is generally summed up as creating content specifically for the search engines, by attempting to trick the search engine’s algorithm from its intended purpose. Black hat SEO is used anticipating that the sites may eventually be banned once the search engines discover what they are doing, and hope that short-term benefits will outweigh the risk having their sites banned. White hat SEO tend to produce long-term results most internet marketers are looking for.
