Term of the Day - Blog — (weB LOG)

Definition - A blog is for all intents and purposes, a journal or diary that is available on the web. The activity of updating or posting an entry on a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”

Blogs are typically updated much more easily, and therefore, more often than a website, often daily. The sites hosting the blogs are typically free and very easy to use, which allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog.

Postings on a blog are almost always displayed in chronological order with the most recent additions featured first.

It is common for blogs to be available as RSS feeds to those with readers on sites like Google and Yahoo. Your reader can be like a daily paper, with all the updates to your favorite blogs and website instantly available in one location.

(My First Bonus/Editorial Definition - Ever!) Blogosphere or Blogsphere - The current sum of the mass of all information available on all blogs and/or the community of those who create and use blogs. Must be kind of like the universe being the blogosphere, with each individual star or planet being a blog (or maybe the individual bloggers are the stars and planets - I’m not sure), but on a much smaller, and certainly less spectacular scale. Seems more like slang, than a real term to me! One of those words an internet “guru” wanted to make sure they were the first to use so they would sound Web 3.0. Well, I’m way too old and grumpy for this kind of nonsense, and I vow never to use, or even gaze upon this term again.
